Description

NorCal Solar is pleased to present two Bay Area screenings of "Solar Roots - The Pioneers of PV,” the first documentary film that tells the true story of the birth of the solar photovoltaic industry.

This funny and touching documentary starts with a brief history of the discoveries and early industrial uses of silicon solar cells and then focuses on the colorful characters that gave birth to the PV home power market in the 1980’s, which developed into the modern PV industry in the early 2000’s. Filmmakers Jason Vetterli and Jeff Spies traveled the country for two years interviewing more than 50 solar PV pioneers, who shared their stories about how a bunch of business hippies brought solar power down from space into homes around the world.
